Otherworld: Through the Veil – Project Update (Smile Game Builder)

Otherworld SGB: Through the Veil Title

Development on Otherworld: Through the Veil has been slow but consistent, mostly on some of my days off.

Release Date

The tentative release date for Otherworld SGB is August, 2017.

Although this may change, this seems the most likely date for its release. The game will be short – probably no more than an hour long – and will be free to download and play.

Models

3D modelling was never my forte, so creating the models for the game is a huge bugbear and one of the biggest hindrances to its development. And, with that said, this has no impact on plot or world-building.

Perhaps I’m just too impatient when it comes to 3D modelling, but determination and motivation are still high to learn Blender, especially with Smile Game Builder in mind. With a wealth of tutorials available, it’s time to go through them, one by one, and learn.

Although many 3D modelling software, such as Daz 3D Studio and 3DS Studio Max, exist, Blender is by far the easiest to use. Besides, it’s free and doesn’t require expensive licensing or subscription fees. And Blender is the most flexible when it comes to creating models for Smile Game Builder.

After Otherworld SGB

After Otherworld SGB is complete, I’m shifting my focus back onto another project for RPG Maker MV. I’ll continue my Smile Game Builder tutorials, of course, including with new features as they become available.

The new project is The Gladiator Project, an old RPG Maker VX/VX Ace project indefinitely on hold, renamed to The Gladiator Program: Cabal. Its redevelopment for RPG Maker MV means that all of its resources and scripts need conversion and porting over. But this should be a relatively easy process, since I’ve done most of the work already.

Updates for Otherworld SGB will continue for a while, however, and may eventually expand into a longer game.

At the moment, I have no future plans to work on further Otherworld projects, but most likely I’ll return to that much later, after finishing The Gladiator Program.
